itinerary for France & Switzerland

i plan to visit Europe for the 1st time in my life...and i have only 10 days to spare and thinking of visiting France & Switzerland in such limited time.

i intend to fly to Paris and fly back to my country from Zurich.

Hence, i am thinking of spending around 4 days in France before heading to Switzerland for another 5 days...

i am looking at spring period (apr-may) for my travel plan. is spring a raining session in France & switzerland? if spring is not a good period, which period will be better? fyi, i can't take cold and going in winter is out of question.

it's a budget trip and i am travelling alone. I'm keen on sightseeings and must-visit 'cities' for both countries. ideally, i hope to visit 2 main cities in each country.

i need advise on the followings:
1. suggestion on itinerary from France to Switzerland
2. Recommendation on backpacker's hostel for the cities i will be staying
3. Advise on those 'long journey' between cities whereby taking 'night ride' will be better (to save on the accomodation cost'
4. estimated cost for the suggested itinerary (transport, accomodation, entrance fee)
5. choice of transportation - eurotrail or bus between country and within country (city to city)

Thanks in Advance!
