Hi everybody,
I need some advise on places to visit. I will be in Milan on 15th November 2014 for about 10 days. What are the must do in Italy and I thought of visiting Prague and Vienna is possible. Since its winter then, please advise on the possible itineraries.

Vienna is very distant from Milan, the only practical way to get there is flying. Just remember prince Metternich words: Asia begins at the Landstrasse (i.e. as you step out of Vienna).
The same is for Prague (5 hours by train from Vienna).

There are lots of flights to Vienna and Prague from Milan, so it is up to you if you want to pay that price and take the time to do it.

If you would rather stay in Italy, then it is very easy to take fast trains from Milan to Bologna and Torino and Verona -- all marvelous places -- but they are not cheap unless you book in advance. On a sunny day, you can go to visit Lago di Como and it will be quite beautiful. The same is true of the town of Stresa on Lago Maggiore.

The town of Mantova is fascinating and an easy train ride from Milan. There is also the amazing huge religious complex of Pavia, which is just outside Milan.

It is much longer and more expensive to visit Venice or Florence from Milan by train. It is better if you can spend a night or two there.

Milan itself has many beautiful places to see and visit, including the Michaelangelo statue in the castle, the dramatic duomo, the historic opera house, and the unusual museum of the Ambrosiana. If you want to see Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, you must buy a ticket in advance on the internet.

Actually you can get to Florence by train from Milan in less time than it takes to get to Mantova. It does cost more, but if you buy well in advance, not very much more.

Getting to Venice does take longer, but not by terribly much: the trip is about 45 minutes longer.

We did a city tour of Milan last month that included a visit to the Last Supper. I recommend this.

We then spent time in Bellagio and Bolzano. Both great spots and not that far to get to. The Dolomites are outstanding.

It is hard to tell from your post if you are asking about day trips or longer trips. If you mean overnight I would definitely go see Florence or Venice. Both unique areas.

Another recommendation for this site: Always post your request in the heading of your post. You get more responses. Instead of Itinerary Advice Please you could have said: Best places to visit from Milan, Italy or Will be in Milan. What are the must see places from there?

Thank you very much for all your responses. We might be spending all 9 days in Italy now instead of travelling to Prague etc. Current itinerary would be Milan-Venice-Florence-Tuscany-Rome. Would 2 nights at each of these places be sufficient?

Sufficient for what? For whom?

Many people here would hate spending just 2 nights in most of the places you mentioned. Other people feel 4 hours is enough for some of them. Florence is the capital of Tuscany, so what do you want to do in Tuscany?

Without knowing why you picked these places to go and what you hope to do in them, it is very hard to guess whether 2 nights will be "sufficient" time.
