Itinerary advice Greece Nov 18-26

Hello,

My wife and I decided on a last minute trip to Greece (hoping it will not be very cold) during the Thanksgiving week.
We are in our late 40s and into sightseeing , hikes, pictures, etc... and not really into sunbathing/wine/food experiences.

We arrive late night on Nov 18 and depart very early on Nov 26 from Athens airport.

Our initial thinking is 2-3 nights on Santorini and remaining on mainland with overnight trip to Delphi/Meteora ....

Im concerned a bit about cold /wind on the islands , perhaps not the best time but this week is all we had. Love to hear experience if you happened to there during late November times .

I would really appreciate your trip itinerary suggestions,

thanks much,
HD

Chances are it will be colder at Meteora than on Santorini, because it is in northern Greece. Bring some warm clothes and you will be fine.

It will be colder for sure in the Meteora area , in late November it might even snow !

Santorini in late November will be unpleasant .. it will be cold, most shops, restaurants and bars will be closed and it will get dark at 5 pm....

Only bigger islands with larger permanent population are "active" in Winter... such islands are: Syros in the Cyclades, Rhodes, Crete, Lesbos, Samos and Chios to name a few.

Staying at Mainland Greece which has so much to explore would be the best alternative in my opinion.

I agree with clausar that mainland Greece is better to visit in winter.

A full time resident of Santorini who writes in the TripAdvisor forum insists that winter weather on Santorini isn't as bad as many people make out, but Ingela is from Sweden, so perhaps had different standards from the rest of us. I never go to the islands after September, so have no personal experience.

Have been often to islands in the winter, Santorini included ( i was a hotel manager there once )....

The main problem in the winter, is that it gets boring, since options are limited....

This video will give you an idea of Santorini covered with snow

and this is a sunny winter day in Oia... without the summer crowds.. which is pretty much what you will experience if you visit in Mid November... ( well i am referring here to the crowds, not the weather...)

Thanks Hiemdall and Clausar for your inputs , I appreciate it.

Clausar thanks for for the youtube links .. its helps a lot ... we are thinking of going to Santorini albeit for one night as we may not go back there in the foreseeable future.
Will wait to book the Santorini flight to get more temp updates
