itinerary advice for sw France

Jump to last reply

We are making preliminary plans for next Sept. The plan is to fly to Paris and train to Bordeaux for two nights. Then train to Agen where we will pick up a self cruise boat for one week with another couple. After that we will have 7-10 days to explore on our own. I was thinking of picking up a rental car somewhere around Condom and driving to Cauterets. I have read about the Gavarnie area and thought Cauterets would be a good base. From there drive to Pau, then St Jean Pied de Port and on to the coast before returning to Bordeaux. I will admit to being squeemish on narrow mountain roads so I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this area. Also, does this seem like a realistic itinerary?

Many thanks.
