Italy trip planning

Jump to last reply

We are planning a trip to Italy in August (I know it will be HOT!). We will have 12 or 13 days in country. We will probably be using the train system. What are the trains like? How do they compare with Germany? Where can I find out more info about taking the trains?
This is what I have so far:
Rome - 3 or 4 days
Naples - 2 days
Day trip to Pompeii
Day trip to Pisa - anything to see beside the leaning tower?
Florence
Venice

I figured that is about all we can do in 12 days. We like architecture, museums, and just taking in the sights. My son also loves history. There will only be my 17 year old son and me (mom). I will also want to do a little shopping.

Does this look manageable? Will it be easy enough traveling these cities by train? What would probably be the best route? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
