Whats a good driving trip in this region if we want to hit all 3 countries in about 10 days or so?
Outdoor activities would be a great plus.
thanks.

Dolomites - West Tyrol - Engadin?
Assuming you'll start by flying into one end of this string of places and out the other end, here's what I'd do:
(Just general locations along the route, not specific destinations or overnight stops)
One Option:
-Milan-Lake Como-St. Moritz-Merano-Bolzano-Innsbruck or Salzburg-Munich.
OR:
-Zurich-Lucerne-Interlaken-Lugano-Bergamo-Verona-Lake Garda-Bolzano-Cortina-Salzburg-Munich.
There are lots of other choices, and any of them are going to give you a wonderfully scenic journey.
Tom, without more specific info like where you are flying into and out of, how far into Italy you want to go, etc., etc., this is the itinerary my husband and I did several years ago. However, it was for 2 weeks, not 10 days. 10 days is not enough time to do 3 countries. However, this might give you some ideas.
Day 1 - Arrived Frankfurt, picked up rental car and drove to Regensburg (4 hrs)
Day 2 - To Vienna (4 hrs)
Days 3 & 4 - Vienna
Day 5 - To Salzburg (3 hrs).
Days 6 & 7 - To Hallstatt (1+ hrs)
Day 8 - To Bolzano (4+ hrs)
Day 9 - To Lake Como (3+ hrs)
Days 10 & 11 - To Lucerne (2+ hrs)
Day 12 - To Rothenburg (4+ hrs)
Day 13 - To Frankfurt late afternoon
Day 14 - Flight back to US
Some people will say this is a lot of driving. However, we enjoyed seeing the scenery and had already been to some of these places years before. We had a great time. In fact, we did a similar trip in May but didn't venture into Italy this time and spent a little more time in Germay.
