Italy possible with infant?

My DH and I have never travelled to Europe together and really want to! We have an infant and are wondering what you all think...is it a good idea to bring our baby to Italy with us? She will be 6 months in May, and were thinking that would potentially be a good time to go. It would be nice to spend some time in Rome, and then one other place. Should we stick to a big city? Or would the Amalfi Coast be manageable? Should we just stay in Rome? Any tips for traveling with a baby? Thanks!
