Italy, making 6 short days count.

I only have 6 days in Italy and want to spend it in the best way possible. Definitely want to do the typical tourist-y visits like the Coliseum, Vatican, Rome, experience awesome meals, and tour some of the wine country. I'd also like to spend time near a beautiful coastal area, and lay on a beach for some of the trip. City suggestions and whether I should fly or take a train or car to said city is greatly appreciated. This would be a for a trip (not yet booked) for June. I have no other opportunities, so even though it will be the busiest month, I will have to deal with the crowds.

Thanks in advance!

With 5 full days, you will be advised to just stay in Rome. If you do pick another stop for a couple of nights, the idea would be to head there directly [by train], staying in Rome last. Inquire about a possible beach day trip to Sperlonga, other day trips, maybe hiring a driver for somewhere else, or a group tour. For the Vatican and St Peter's, early AM small group tours are very efficient time-wise.

Will you arrive on Day 1 and depart on Day 6, or do you have 6 days in addition to your travel days?

I agree 100%.....well 99.99 repeating... With that much time I would spend the night in sperlonga. It's an amazing town. I likened it to "Greece in Italy'. I did it in a day during a three night stay in Rome. I think it was like a :45 train ride and almost missed the last train back. (Fond memories of making a mad dash across the bridge over the train track when it pulled into station) Wish I'd stayed the night and enjoyed the town. That being said... I did enjoy an awesome geloto at the bus station; watching a beautiful sunset over the meditranian.

Train or cab to the Roma Termini station, use a Trenitalia machine, tickets to Fondi-Sperlonga. Then the return ones. These need to be date stamped before boarding.

Rome and the beach of Anzio or Nettuno. Instead of Anzio, you may go by boat (freom there) to Ponza Island.

You want beach? Go to the Caribbean. Too much to see in Italy in too little time to waste it sitting on a beach.

It is possible to find decent beaches in Italy (one is mentioned above) but most seaside resorts don't have very nice beaches (small, pebbles or even rocks, in the center of a town - no wilderness) and the main purpose is not sitting on a beach (perfectly easy in the US esp in summer) but visiting the resort.

Yo have not clarified how many days you actually have on the ground - but assuming it is 4.5 (1/2 days just lagged when you arrive and you lave on day 6) I would agree to go to Sperlonga immediately you arrive and stay there one night - then move to Rome for your other 3 days - which is really the minimum time to see much of anything.

And June is not the most crowded time - that would be August - which also had the hottest/most humid weather.
