Trip Report Italy Honeymoon 2016

Jump to last reply

We just returned a few days ago from our amazing honeymoon in Italy- 16 nights and we wish we could have extended our trip! We wanted to share an abridged trip report since our honeymoon was really a trip of a lifetime!!
We flew from NYC to Venice first and stayed at the Hotel Danieli! We loved this hotel!! While in Venice the first day we got there we spent wandering around. The next day we booked a private tour and took a private water taxi to see Venice by boat- we got to see different neighborhoods and then went to the Rialto Market which we loved!! Afterwards, we got to see Venice by land. We saw the Ducal Palace- having the private tour guide was really helpful- as Venice was very busy with tourists and she was able to cut the lines. From Ducal Palace we visited the Basilica di San Marco (St. Mark's Basilica). Once our private tour was over my husband and I went for an amazing lunch (thanks to a fellow fodors for writing about it). The restaurant was called Corte Sconta. Lucy the owner was amazing and the food was delicious!! That night we went for a delicious dinner- Alle Testiere. Ask for Marcello! Another wonderful meal. Afterwards, we went to a very special wine bar (thanks to a fellow fodors for writing about it) The wine bar was called Rusteghi. It was hard to find, but so worth it! My husband and I loved Venice. We especially loved Venice at night when all the crowds left.
From Venice we rented a car and drove to Tuscany (Montacino area) we stayed at the Castello Di Velona which is a thermal spa and winery. We love Brunello wine and visited incredible wineries.
Our favorites were Uccelleria, Mastrojanni, and Sesta Di Sopra.
From Montacino we drove to Pompeii and went on a private 2 hour tour of Pompeii. After the tour, we drove to Positano. This is where we felt the honeymoon really started!! Positano is magical and we absoloutely loved our hotel! We stayed at the Il San Pietro and we never felt that we had to leave our amazing hotel! We did explore Positano's town and went to Bar Bruno one night, we ate in our hotel one night, and went to La Sponda in the Sirenuse, as well as a local traditional restaurant called La Cambusa. We loved La Cambusa and Bar Bruno! From Positano we took a hydrofoil to Capri. We stayed at Casa Morgano for one night and switched hotels to Punta Tragara which we loved!! Casa Morgano needs to be renovated. Punta Tragara was a terrific hotel! From Positano we took a hydrofoil to Naples and flew from Naples to Rome. We stayed at the St. Regis in Rome and loved our stay there. We had delicious meals in Rome and enjoyed sightseeing. We miss Italy already!!
