Italy, Austria & Germany

Jump to last reply

I have our rough draft itinerary and was hoping for some advice, comments, etc. We are two adults and my 14 year old son and we have two full weeks.

We went to Italy in April and visited Milan, Florence, Rome and Sorrento and want to go back to Europe and see some more! We did day trips and used the trains. We are open to any suggestions anyone has to offer. Do we have two many nights in one area or not enough? We have not purchased flights yet so we are open to flying out of Munch or Salzburg, of wherever has the direct flights. Side day trips are flexible and below are just some ideas.

Couple of questions...
1. Our original plan did have us going to the Lake Region, but wasn't sure if it would eat up too much. Was that wise?
2. Going from Venice to Austria is long train ride. Are we better off stopping one night along the way or just get it over with?
3. Should I put back in the Lakes in Italy in the beginning, skip Munich and end the trip in Salzburg?

7/1 NY to Milan
7/2 Milan to Verona by train
7/3 Verona - day trips maybe to Mantua or Trento
7/4 Verona
7/5 Train to Venice
7/6 Venice
7/7 Venice
7/8 Early train Venice to Innsbruck, Austria - get there and see Innsbruck a bit. We would also like to visit Mittenwald/Garmisch Germany from there and maybe Bad Tolz as well. Maybe visit Brixen and Sterzing? Just some ideas, not going to see them all.
7/9 Innsbruck
7/10 Innsbruck
7/11 Train Innsbruck to Salzburg - while there we want to visit Haalstatt, Bad Iscl
7/12 Salzburg
7/13 Salzburg
7/14 Train maybe to Munich...not sure and stay two nights or maybe add another night onto another city and stay one night in Munich. We could also skip Munich and fly out of Austria if the prices are better
7/15 Munich
7/16 Fly home
