My dates are a little flexible. I always seem to stretch the trip a bit longer than the original plan. Leaving May 19-21ish Returning June 4-5ish. Can't stay in just Italy. I want to show my children more of Europe. We did add France to Italy, last year, so we can check that off. I'm planning to see more of France with only my husband. My previous post explains that I have been to Italy many(11) times but it is our 25th anniversary and we were married in Rome. We will have three 19-21 year olds with us.
Today my plan is this:
5 night Rome
4 nights Lake Como
Fly from Milan to Amsterdam
3 nights Amsterdam
4 nights Antwerp (Bruge, Ghent)
Fly out of Brussels or reverse Amsterdam and Antrewp, which ever has cheaper flights to Chicago
Any thoughts?
Italy, Amsterdam, Antrewp?

You have already checked the US - Europe airfares, but what is the difference in a Milan - Brussels ticket (instead of Milan to Amsterdam). Beligum and the Netherlands are small countries with frequent rail service so getting around these countries is easy regardless of whether which direction you travel in. I would also add a trip to Den Haag and Delft if you have time for this.
Watch the spelling of Antwerp. You were one-for-three, but I just wanted to point it out or you might have trouble researching trains and hotels.
I would do 4 nights in Amsterdam, 3 in Antwerp. Amsterdam will appeal more to the younger group than Brugge (or Bruges - never Bruge) and Ghent I think, and you can do the suggested day trip to Den Haag and or Delft or somewhere else. I assume these days include travelling days?
How I hate miss spelling in the heading. It's so embarrassing! Sorry. Someone told me Ghent is spelled 3 different ways. Even I would have a hard time messing it up repeatedly.
I haven't had a chance to check out the flights from Milan to Brussels. I was planning on doing that tonight. Brugge, Bruge, Antwerp, Antwerpen.....Got it. Thanks
4 nights in Amsterdam, 3 in Antwerp. When the younger ones get there they may never want to leave! Also, Amsterdam almost always has cheap flights to Chicago. If I remember correctly there's a great agency called AirFair.nl (I think it's AirFair and not AirFare) that always hooked me up with retardedly cheap deals, but a lot of those little spots on Damrak can find cheap tickets too....THough I guess maybe you'll buy yours before leaving. And as much as I love Como, yes, waaaaay more than Rome, I would say 3 nights in Como, 6 in Rome because there's just sooooo much in Rome, as you well know....Maybe 4 nights in Rome, 3 in Como and 2 in Firenze? I dunno how much you want to travel.....
Miss spelling?
...And while I'm at it "retardedly" cheap? Eew.
And then there's Leiden/Leyden which is on my bucket list because of my Pilgrim ancestors.

<<Someone told me Ghent is spelled 3 different ways.>>
Indeed. Gent (Flemish/Dutch), Gand (French) and Ghent (English). But the only official spelling is Gent because the city is located in Flanders, the Flemish (Dutch)-speaking part of Belgium.
