Italy--day trip possible up the Amalfi coast?

Just curious, as I will be in Naples..is it possible to do a day trip and take the
(in)famous bus ride up the coast? Where can I get the bus?

I'm young, energetic, and don't mind long crazy days.

Thanks!

You're going "down" the coast from Naples.

But yes, it's definitely doable. Take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento, then the bus to Amalfi. From Amalfi, you can backtrack, or you can take a different bus to Salerno, where you can the mainline train back to Naples.

Thanks, rkkwan! Hmmm..how long is the bus ride from Sorrento to Amalfi? Wondering if I can also visit Positano that same day..

Thanks!

Or from Naples you can take a rather quick train to Salerno, then work your way back by bus to Sorrento, and maybe taking the boat from Sorrento back across the bay to Naples.

Hi MissZ - An easy day-trip, as RK says.

The Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento runs about every 30 mins from Napoli Centrale/Piazza Garibaldi station (- journey time: approx. 1hr)

From Sorrento you could do part by bus and part by ferry.

For bus timetables Sorrento-Positano, Positano-Amalfi and Amalfi-Salerno see:

http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campan...COCOSTIERA.pdf

If you want to do a side-trip up to Ravello from Amalfi, timetables are on:

http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campan...COCOSTIERA.pdf

For ferry timetables between Positano-Amalfi and Amalfi-Salerno go to:

http://www.salernocity.com/comune/tr.../costiera2.asp

For trains back from Salerno to Naples see:

http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Hope this helps ...

P.S. If I were you I'd probably do Sorrento-Positano by bus (- N.B. - sit on the right-hand side for best views ), then Positano-Amalfi by ferry.

Buon viaggio.

I would do:

Circumversuivia train to Sorrento.

SITA bus from Sorrento to Amalfi Town.

Hydrofoil/Ferry back to Naples, then you can see the coast from the ocean which gives it another perspective
