Italy--Bologna and other places
We are traveling to Italy at the end of July. We are staying in a "recently restored 16th century hamlet" on the Emilia Romagna Apennines that is 45 km from Modena and Bologna. (We're flying in and out of Bologna)Our plan is to take day trips. We are taking our 7 3/4 year old grandchild.
Does anyone have tips for this area? Places to see/visit? Places to eat? Things to buy? Any cultural tips?
Thanks

Hi dr,
You might find the daytrip to Bologna part of my trip report helpful.

You will not regret taking a trip with www.parmagolosa.it. We took two teens to see Parma ham, cheese, vinegar concerns--it was a hit. Not sure if the 8 year old will be as thrilled, but you will be I promise (if you like to eat fine foods). During a 6 hour day, we followed our guide on small country roads. We first thought of trying it on our own to save money, but thank goodness we didn't. Each concern was rather small and did things the traditional way. The guide was very knowledgeable about the processes and her English was great. We spent 5 weeks in Italy/Switzerland/France and this was truly something worth doing.
