Hi everyone, and happy holidays...
Although I'm sure this has been covered in the past, I'm looking for updated recommendations for "beginner's" guides to (1) paintings/sculpture and (2) wine, for my upcoming trip to Italy. I confess to being a novice, but I want to learn some background on both before I leave in May. Something a little more in depth than a standard guidebook (smile) is what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Although it may be outdated when it comes to restaurant recommendations, Fred Plotkin's book "Italy for the Gourmet Traveler" has great information about Italian wines as well as food. I also like his synopses of popular AND off the beaten path cities and towns.
