Italian and Swiss Alps in May - Where to go?

We are traveling to Italy early next May. We would like to visit the italian / swiss / austrian alps. May go to Lake Como, or Lake Garda. Any suggestions about where to go and is it too early snow wise to get up into the alpine meadows and paths?

Best to play it by ear with the Alps in early May. If you are visiting the lakes, you can drive up there on short notice. If it turns out to be lousy weather, there are many interesting places right nearby, including Venice and Verona and lots of beautiful little towns like Asolo or Treviso, where they weather really won't matter at all.
