IT for last three days of England/Scotland trip

Thanks to everyone's input, we have a list of must-sees and suggestions for our trip to England and Scotland. We are leaving soon and I'm really looking forward to it -- especially some cooler weather!

The last three or four days are open at this point. We will be leaving St. Andrews on September 11 and need to be in Windsor on September 14 to stay overnight for our 9/15 mid-morning flight back to the States.

Can anyone suggest a route from St. Andrews to Windsor that would include about two or three hours of driving each day and give us time to walk and view the area? We will have driven up the London-York-Edinburgh route on our way to Scotland earlier in the trip, so I don't necessarily want to repeat that drive in reverse...

Thanks in advance for input and feedback -- this message board has been a great source of information!

You could return via the Lake District and Chester. Beautiful scenery in Grasmere, Windermere and around. After that you could stop in Chester, which is a nice place, too. We liked it when we were in those places last year.

Good luck!

I agree that the Cumbria area and Lake District would be my first choice. Very scenic.

Debe, seeing you have 11th, 12th, 13th and then arrive at Windsor on the 14th (no doubt in the afternoon), why not drive & stay 1 night in the Lake District, then the next day drive down to the Peak District and stay 1 night, then the last night stay in the Cotswolds, which will put you closer to Windsor, if you have to return your car rental by early morning.

Oh, yes, the Cotswolds area is beautiful as well! Bath is around there and that is a good option too! And then on the way to Windsor you have Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral.
Plenty of options to choose from!

Well, we're turning in the car on the morning of the 15th when we check in at Heathrow, so we don't have to arrive at Windsor until the afternoon of the 14th -- although I'd like to leave time to explore.

I'd love to show my husband Bath, and it's an easy jog to Windsor from there.

Would it be too much driving from the Lake District/Peak District to Bath? We've seen Salisbury and Stonehenge (with London Walks, a great way to do it, by the way)...

PS, we biked (as in bicycle) the Cotswolds last time we were in England -- a wonderful way to see it!

Scotland - try to see some of the Highlands, the Edin - St. A route misses this.
Head west from St. Andrews until you are more than halfway across the country, then head south for Glasgow.
