We will be in Istanbul for 4 nights in December for a quick look at the city. In the past when we have travelled (Marrakech in particular) we have looked for traditional accomodation to get more of an idea of the culture of the city. Does such a concept exist in Istanbul or is it too 'modern' a city? The most important other factors are for the accomodation to be clean and quiet.
Also - any nice day trips from Istanbul? Nice surrounding countryside nature as well as regular city tourist sites?
Many thanks
sam
Istanbul Old City. Recommended traditional accomodation?

I don't know if you would call it traditional, per se, but I really liked Hotel Poem. Take a look at its concept.
Tash Konak worked for us..An old Ottoman house as a hotel.Very reasonable, very convenient, shuttle to and from the airport, discount for cash, free internet, great breakfast and very tasty dinner if ordered from the front desk prior to noon. Staff is most helpful and english speaking. "Backpackers" tour group was also very satisfactory and doesn't mean the cliental is comprised of backpackers.. We used them for 3 one half day tours and would do it again. If Deliet is still with them she is a gem!
