The idea of taking a food tour in Istanbul is appealing. The 2 tour companies that I have chanced upon during net search are Istanbul Eats: Culinary Secrets of the Old City and Delicious Istanbul Food Tour (run by someone named olga). Has anyone taken any of these personally? Would you recommend it?

I have not yet visited Turkey (so I probably have no business replying), but I have heard of Istanbul Eats and their tours come highly recommended. They get excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, and the owner of the apartment we're renting in Sultanahmet recommends them highly, also. I believe that Istanbul Eats does several tours, including the one you mention, a "kebab crawl" in Sultanahmet, and one in Beyoglu. People seem to like them all.
Never heard of Olga (no offense to her).
hmm...i am also veering towards istanbul Eats. Culinary Secrets is more appealing to me than Kebab Crawl, simply because I can go to old delhi and have the best of kebabs in winter time. (turkish kebabs are different from north indian ones but not THAT different!)

And you have my vote of including ephesus in your itinerary
Thanks, shwets! I'm now getting ready to post a question about actually *going* to Ephesus... so you all will have to bear with me for a while longer.
I always want to have such kind of trip, it sounds amazing!! Thanks for idea
Mila,
when are you planning to visit Istanbul? i would be starting my vacation this weekend and can report back on how the culinary tour went before sept-end.
Jumping on shwets, I am going to be in Istanbul late October and am planning on doing one of these tours. Would love to hear from you when you return. Thanks in advance, Kim
