"Have Rick Steves travel books"

IME, these books skip much of what I most treasured in the places I visit. You might want to consult some other guidebooks before committing to a plan. JMO.

we were on our own 2 weeks in turkey... and on a rick steves tour 2 weeks. we stayed 3 separate places in istanbul, and liked the r.s. place the least (Azade Hotel... great location, that's it). We liked the Cosmopolitan Park hotel but it's super basic. Just up the street from a 5 star hotel... the location is great, and we had a view of the water from our room. Best all-around for a superior breakfast, friendly service, good location with an elevator and comfy beds was Erboy Hotel... and they picked us up at the airport for no charge (i think that was offered with a 3 night stay.) Just some thoughts.

If you like thermal water, the very fancy Limak Thermal Botique Hotel was a 45 minute ferry ride away from Istanbul and a truly special treat. Lots of hiking there... and a great little waterfall to visit and hike around.

Let us know more specific questions so we can really help.
