Isle of Skye: Orbost House or Taigh na Traon?

Has anyone stayed at either of these? Orbost House doesn't have a rating as far as I can tell...Should I be wary? Sheila? Tony? Frank? Anyone?

I looked up both - these are self catering accomodations. Since most holiday cottages are single, individually owned properties, many don't join any of the "rating schemes". So lack of a star/crown rating doesn't mean much one way or the other. Just look carefully over the web sites and decide which property best meets your needs re location, size, price, etc.

Cindy, you should not be too nervous about lack of rating in the islands. A lot of businesses don't join the tourist board because they don't want to pay the cost.

I don't know either, but my choice from looking at the web sites would be Orbost

Thank you, Janis and Sheila! Has anyone else out there stayed in either of these places?

Sheila, why would you choose Orbost? Is the location better? How so? Thank you.

My guess is that you may not get an answer from anyone who has stayed there (you may strike it lucky though). These are single cottages, so at most 35 or 40 families will have rented each within the last year. They are not hotels with 35 or 40 residents a day.

There are many (many!) self catering cottages on Skye so we can't say these two are better or worse than some others - but based on their websites I agree with Sheila - the slight nod goes to Orbost House. Why - the location is near more "things" and the views to the Cullins. They are both probably just wonderful -

Actually I liked the house more. Purely subjective
