Hello all,

I am traveling to Scotland in July with my wife and two kids (aged 8 and 3.5 years). We are visiting the Isle of Arran where we are staying for about 3.5 days (July 20th-23rd). The question I have is whether this is enough or is it too much. We will be having a car while there and plan to drive around the island visiting the sites, going to the beach and on one of the days take the ferry to drive down the Mull of Kintyre. The other alternative is to stay 2.5 days on Arran (not do Kintyre) and stay a night in Loch Lomond or Glasgow before continuing onto Stirling and Edinburgh.

Thank you to all the members on this forum who have been immensely helpful before and appreciate all the inputs and suggestions.

I would have no difficulty finding enough to do on a 3-night stay in Arran (often described as "Scotland in miniature"). A day trip down to the Mull of Kintyre is feasible - but you are looking at around 3 hours each way from, say Brodick, including the ferry journey.

Personally, rather than retracing my steps to Arran, I would make a circular tour Arran -> Mull of Kintyre -> Inveraray - > Loch Lomond and spend one night in Inveraray.

I can't see any point in breaking your onward trip in either Glasgow of Loch Loond if the following night you are staying in Stirling - these places are very close together, and unlike Argyll & Bute, the Central Belt has good, fast connecting roads.

If you will have the right footwear, consider climbing Goat Fell. It will take most of the day but will provide a life time of memories. The main factor of a holiday in Arran is the weather. There is no more beautiful place if the sun is shining, but it can be depressing if the rain is coming down. There is a problem right now in that the ferries are on strike and the island is cut off from the mainland.

I'd definitely consider Gordon_R's suggestion of doing a loop tour Arran > Mull of Kintyre > Inveraray > Loch Lomond (or not) > Stirling > Edinburgh

If your plan is to stay a night in Stirling -- I wouldn't stay IN Stirling, but in one of the nearby towns/villages (Doune, Callander, Aberfoyle, etc.)
