Ischia day trip. Where do we go?
Hello. My husband and I will be on the Amalfi Coast in May. We will stay 5 nights in Positano and 5 in Ravello. We are considering a day trip from Positano to the island of Ischia (based on suggestions from people on this forum. I believe it was Jim who originally suggested it.) I read a little about Ischia and searched for messages on this forum, but there isn't much info. So, where should we go on Ischia for the day and why? Thank you!

Hi There, Ischia is famous for it's mineral spa's and vinyards. My husband and I really enjoyed renting vespa's and circumnavigating the island. (not scarey like renting a scooter in say, Rome) lovely scenic hills, and we were able to get the entire way round in about half a day, stopping for a pic nic and taking many MANY photos. <BR>As we were there in March, many of the baths were closed, but you might consider stopping into one of the many spa's on the island for a massage. Ischia remains one of our favorite locations.

I recommend the hot springs and also going to see the Castle Aragonese. The most relaxing way to get there and the most beautiful, is to take a charter boat (with bedrooms, showers, bathrooms, full bar, refrig, etc) and customize your trip (go to Capri as well, or a trip down the coast to Sorrento). There is a charter boat service called La Dolce Vita (www.ladolcevitataxicharter.com) that can take you whereever you would like to go.

We loved Ischia once we got away from the port which is touristy and ugly. We were taken to a wonderful, authentic family run restaurant called Neptune high in the hills, overlooking the sea. Lunch was about 2 1/2 hours long and ended with the family and staff singing and dancing while they poured us complimentary house made lemoncellos and we grazed onfresh fruit sitting on ice. The food was exquisite and very reasonable. Not to be missed.
