Ischia
We had intended to take a day trip only from Naples to Ischia, but as we did our research, we knew we had to stay there for a couple of nights, so we're rearranging our trip. We won't have a car and so will be taking the bus. Are we better off staying in Ischia Porto so that we're closer to the main line of the bus, or will the town be overrun by daytrippers in late June/early July? Would we be better off staying in Ischia Ponte for that reason, or is that a little out of the way to get to the bus? What we want to do on the island is get to a magnificent sand beach (we're thinking Maronti) and a terme of some sort, maybe over by Casamicciola or Negombo. If we get the waters/mud and also a great beach, we'll be more than satisfied. I do realize it's limiting to only use the bus and walking (we've heard taxis are expensive), but that's what we're doing. Any guidance would be sooooo very helpful.
Thanks,
Annie

Go to the far side - the bus from the Port to, say, Forio only takes 25 minutes, to Panza 35 minutes. Less if you arrive at Casamicciola.
The summer 2017 timetable is not out yet, but for comparisons, here is the link to the summer 2016 timetables:

Yesterday, while researching online, we fell in love with Sant'Angelo. Someone on another thread posted rave reviews of a hotel there, which was perfect for us. The fact that this town doesn't allow vehicles in and that it's been the home to many artists, as well as accessibility to a spa garden and the fantastic and beautiful nearby Maronti beach resonated with us. I know it's at the end of one of the bus lines. We weren't figuring on moving around a lot, anyway, so we're thinking this is the area for us. Anyone's take on Sant'Angelo, besides the fact that it's out of the way? And yes, we've heard that they don't speak a lot of English there. That's a plus - and a challenge - for us

I would strongly suggest you give some consideration to using Forio as your base on Ischia.
Firstly you can get there from Naples by direct ferry. Being close to the bus terminal in Ischia Porto is of no particular benefit as the main island bus route circles the whole island - both clockwise and anti-clockwise.
Forio offers a much greater choice of accommodation and restaurants over Sant'Angelo, a sandy beach just north of the port area plus the Poseidon Gardens nearby for the thermal spa experience.
A day trip to Sant' Angelo and Maronti Beach is a simple bus ride away. La Mortella Gardens are a must, walkable from Forio if you're reasonably fit, but the bus can be used otherwise.
Visiting in July, we found the resorts on the northern coast like Casamiccola and Ischia Ponte must more heavily touristed than Forio. Can recommend an excellent self catering option, walkable from the ferry terminal with sea view balconies, if you are interested.
