Isafjordur or Akureyri?

We will be based in Reykjavik and are looking to fly to either Isafjordur or Akureyri for the day or stay overnight, depending on what activities we decide on doing.

The main reason I wanted to venture North was to see the fjords, but I have since thought it may be nice to see some of the volcanic landscape as well. With that said,

1) We want to see a fjord, and possibly kayak through the fjords. Looking at these two citiies, what would be the most 'striking' fjord to do this in?

2) Seems there is a lot around Akureyri as well - Lake Myvatn, and volcanic/lunar landscapes...is this worth seeing? Then would the fjords in Akureyri be just as superb as in Isafjordur?

Thanks so much!
