I'm thinking idly of going away for Xmas and avoiding all the usual Xmas forced habits.
Can anyone tell me about the weather, climate and general appeal of Reykjavik in December/ January?
I don't need warmth but would like sunny skies and aurora borealis. Are those a thing of summer only, realistically?
Thanks
Is Xmas a good or bad time for Iceland?

Hi Kavey, I might be wrong but I went to Iceland in July and it was light out for almost 24 hours. Never really got dark.
So I think in Dec.and early Jan. there would not be any sun, just a kind of twilight light during the daytime.
I have heard temps are right around 0 celcius or a little colder.
I loved Iceland in summer, I would probably like it in winter also.
Thanks very much.
I figured there would be longer darkness but hadn't realised it might be so extreme...
Since I get SAD I probably should avoid Iceland in winter as I don't do well without a few hours of sunlight a day, especially when I'm waking up.
I guess I should have known since winter in UK is bad enough and Iceland is further north.
DOH!
