Is this a good airfare from Austin Texas? Help fellow Austinites.

I was just looking on American Airlines website and I saw an airfare for $701.11 (open jaws)from Austin to Zurich and flying back from Amsterdam starting May 26, 05 to June 8th. It includes tax. Is this a good deal to act on or should I keep looking?

As the saying goes," if the shoe fits, wear it". Your question depends on what you think and will it take care of your needs. You're looking at the start of the high season in air travel in late May, so the price looks good to me. Don't expect rates to drop any time soon. Several airlines are in financial trouble and others have been cutting back on the number of flights they offer, so consider what you've got and book it if it seems reasonable to you.

That is a very good price in my estimation. Prices are very likely to increase in 2005, especially as you get into the high season. I would book it.

Well I have inquired about the $701 fare with American and wouldn't you know there is a nice big catch! Their website lists the fare along with a long list of possible times for the flights. Almost all of them are unavailabe though and the ones that are available have 2 connections for the outbound flight and return flight and can be up to 21 hours including connections. So now I am back to square one. Sometimes these fare sites can be so frustrating! By the way the times I am interested in would cost around $1000!

Hi, tulips. I looked this up on Orbitz and for $710 the schedule looks like this:

5/26/05
Leave AUS 1:00pm
Arrive ZRH 7:55am
(connecting only thru DFW)

6/8/05
Leave AMS 10:00am
Arrive AUS 6:10pm
(connecting thru LGW and DFW)

Please check it out when you get a chance, the schedule and price look good to me.

We plan to travel to Amsterdam in May as well but are flying into Paris, spending some time in France, and then to Amsterdam. We'll be flying out of Brussels, all on American. Amsterdam is about 2 hours from Brussels. Have you checked out fare there?

Hey thanks for the reply! I didn't look at Brussels, but I booked an airfare with expedia on American at $733, all taxes included. Did you get a pretty good fare?

Just flew to London on Continental--they were much cheaper than American.

I decided to book the fare based on talking with other people about fares they have had in the past(flying from Austin.) I did check Continental but they couldn't compare to those fares. Anyway I wanted to lock in the airfare so I can begin reserving hotels. Maybe fares will go lower but I have the assurance that it is done.
