Is the Santa Maria Novella station safe to stay in Florence?
I found a couple of B&B's near the Santa Maria Novella station but read some old posts about it being a little sketchy. I'm just wondering if it's worth spending a little more in a safer area.

It's safe, but I would still spend a little more to be in a NICER area!
I am always shocked that people will spend $1000 to travel overseas, use up all their vacation, and then stay in what is usually the least charming part of a town (usually that means in one of the many super budget options near the train stations) just to save 20E or so a night. Just spend a little more (or give up something like a private bath or elevator) and stay somewhere NICE (and central). Just MHO.

Look to the Relais Grand Tour which is a B&B roughly 5 minute walk north of Duomo and 10 minute walk to SMN. Website is www.florencegrandtour.com Have stayed there on 4 or 5 occasions. Cristina, the owner, is marvelous help and thier accomodations are great. Rates typically around 110-120 euro
