Is the Londonpass a good deal?

I have investigated the pass, which for about 79GBP + 5GBP ($120) for shipping, provides access to attractions and public transportation for 6 days. www.londonpass.com Is this a good deal? I know some of these kinds of passes are great deals and some are rip-offs.

Martha
You posted this question yesterday and received several good responses. Unless you are just shilling for the London Pass people, suggest you check it out.

See my response to the original posting regarding the helpfulness of your reply - the "several" others were not applicable to my question. I am not a schill.

Fodors

It sounds a bad deal. The London two zone travel card for busses, tubes, and local trains for a week, out as far as Geenwich and Hammersmith, is aboiut 22 dollars (and a passport photo). So the Londonpass would cost you 98 dollars for 6 days, or 16 dollars a day. Much of the rest of London is free: Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Houses of Parliament, National Gallery, British Museum. It's true that the Tower costs about 16 dollars, but that apart I don't think your entry tickets are going to reach sixteen dollars a day.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to London.

Ben Haines

For transportation, you might want to wait and buy your Tube travelcard in London. As a tourist you will only need to travel in Zone 1, maybe Zone 2. A daily travelcard for zone 1-2 is 4GBP (approx. $5.67). A 7 day travelcard in zone 1 is 15.90GBP (approx. $22.50). A 7 day travelcard for zone 1-2 is 18.90GBP (approx. $26.75). Buying them in London gives you flexibility. If you feel like walking one day or just want to explore the neighborhood you are in, you will not need to buy a travelcard.

The value of the pass depends on how much you are going to see in London. You have to look at the list and decide what you are going to see. For example I think the Londonpass includes discounts to London Aquarium and London zoo. If this is your first visit to London, you will probably not be going to see the animals. (Not that they're not worth it, but there are so many other unique places to visit). So discounts at those two sites would be useless to you.

Martha
You might want to look at the following web sites as they all have information concerning travelcards (as well as a lot of other tourist type information):
www.britcities.com/
www.transportforlondon.gov.uk/
www.britrail.net/
www.travelbritain.org/
As best as I have been able to determine there are regular travelcards (available for purchase in London) for 1 or 7 day periods. There are also visitor travelcards (available only for purchase outside of the UK)that can be purchased for 3,4 and 7 day periods. For the vast majority of the tourist sites in London, you only need a zones 1-2 travelcard. If you do need to go beyond zones 1-2, you simply buy a ticket for the additional distance you want to travel. There is simply no reason for a tourist to buy a zones 1-6 travelcard. An adult regular travelcards for zones 1-2 for 7 days cost 18.90GBP. An adult 7 day visitor travelcard for zones 1-2 costs $33 in the U.S. Thus, given current exchange rates, it would appear to be a better deal to buy a regular travelcard in London. As far as the london pass is concerned, it is only worthwhile if you are going to visit a lot of the sites they include, where they are actually saving you money on admission. IMHO, the london pass is not a very good deal, but I am sure that there are others who would disagree.
