Is Santa Prassede Open Christmas Day?
Hi all...
We'll be in Rome Christmas week...our third visit, but this time with our son and daughter-in-law. They've never been to the church of Santa Prassede -- IMHO the best church in Rome (not counting St. Peter's).
We're in the process of planning around Christmas day, when many sights are closed.
Does anyone know if Santa Prassede is closed Christmas? I can't find a a contact email to ask.
...and while I'm at it, we'd appreciate any suggestions on things to do in Rome around Christmas and on Christmas day.
Thanks.

this website suggests that it'll be open from 8-12 and 16-18.00 [festivo] the times of mass when the church is closed except for worshipers are shown below, also under "festivo".
http://www.060608.it/it/cultura-e-sv...resse-storico-
artistico/chiese-cattoliche/santa-prassede-al
and here's the official website for the opening times of all the city museums:
http://en.museiincomuneroma.it/infor...ri_e_indirizzi
most close only on Christmas Day and open again on 26th December.
there are a number of other websites which give ideas for what to do over the festive season, but i think that walking around the centro storico would be quite good fun!

Pepper...good point.
Probably will be a mass, but maybe - just maybe - only in the morning...I'm trying to make a list of possible places to visit Christmas day.
Santa Prassede is usually open for a short time in the afternoon. We don't need a lot of time there...but if we can pop in to see the St Zeno chapel on Christmas day, that'll be at the top of our list.

annhig...
Yes, just walking around is always great in Rome. We're staying just off Via Arenula a couple blocks south of Argentina, so we're in a great location for walking.
Actually, we might drop in on a church for mass...we're not Catholics, but one of our best experiences in Paris was dropping in on mass at Notre Dame early one Sunday morning...very moving experience.
Also...does the Pope give an address at St Peters either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? That would be something to experience.

Pope says Midnight Mass - used to start at 10 pm because of previous pope's state of health, but may be restored to midnight under Pope Francis. He gives Urbi et Orbi blessing from the papal loggia on Christmas Day at noon.

there will be masses going on all over the place - take your pick!
like you we are not Catholics [in fact we are not religious at all] but we still found the Easter mass in the Basilica of San Marco in Venice very moving.
google might give you more details of a service that you could attend.
