Is Koln (Cologne) worth the trip?

Jump to last reply

On final planning stages with my family of 2 adults and 3 kids under 6.
We are staying in Oberwesel at the Schoenburg castle for 2 nights and have 2 nights left before heading back to Frankfurt. We would like to stay close to Frankfurt those last 2 nights (no more than 1 hour 30 min from Frankfurt) and would like to stay in one final town for those 2 nights ( I am considering Rudesheim) . We would like to see Koln but don't want to stay there. My dilemma is, koln is almost 2 hours from Oberwesel and then we would have to drive back to stay in the general Rhine region. Too much driving for one day with the kiddos. Is Koln cathedral a must see or is it better to stay in the Rhine area and take that in some more? I know this is a very subjective question. I have seen some gorgeous cathedrals and I just don't want to tax the kids more unless it is unquestionably a must see.
