Is July a good time to visit the Isle of Capri for the first time?

My boyfriend and I have some time off this July and would like to go to where we haven't been before. We've always dreamed of visiting Capri so we're considering it. But I'd like to hear from those who've been there in July though. Is it too hot? Is the tourist traffic too heavy?
P.S. We're open to other suggestions.

If it is your only chance, then go for it.
Otherwise wait until fall.

If you like crowds then yes--but you knew that.

Well, it's better than August. And yes, it will be hot and crowded.

We head to Italy in May and find the weather beuatiful then - plenty warm enough to swim in that area.

Hi gnn881 -- My husband and I are in a very similar situation. We will be in Tuscany with family the first week of July. It is a family trip so choosing a July vacation in Italy was not our decision. After what we expect to be a busy week w/ family, we want a mellow time and have always wanted to go to the Amalfi coast! So, we are booked on Capri for 5 nights but I'm getting cold feet. We love sunny hot weather and our hotel has a lovely pool where we expect to spend a lot of time BUT all this about crowds and hot, hot, hot weather has me concerned. Urgh. Let us know what you decide.

Hi loc5000 -- someone suggested that sorrento would be a better place to stay then just take a day trip to the isle of capri. i'm still not booked so i'm still asking around. i don't mind the heat but the crowds can be intimidating. did you book online?
thanks nytraveler, bobthenavigator and jetsetj for your responses.
