Is it STILL a good time to visit Iceland?
I recall about a year ago all the talk was about how it was the perfect time to visit Iceland as prices fell in what is known as a very expensive country to travel in. Still the case? RT flights are only $400 out of Boston.
Appreciate some feedback, esp. from anyone who traveled there recently, about how expensive it is nowadays.

I'm sorry I can't help you with recent information, but to some of us, ANY time is a good time to visit Iceland! You can do things more cheaply by using supermarkets/eating at the (wonderful) hot dog stands, staying at guesthouses/farms rather than hotels, and, sometimes, using public transportation.
It's just such a gorgeous and fascinating country; it's always one of my top two out of about 40 countries I've been to. (Of course, I am a bit of a geography geek, so fissures and geysirs and boiling mud are fascinating to me!)
Lonely Planet recommends Iceland as a 2010 travel bargain, by the way, but hopefully someone who has been there more recently than I will be able to give you specifics.
It's just such a gorgeous and fascinating country; it's always one of my top two out of about 40 countries I've been to. (Of course, I am a bit of a geography geek, so fissures and geysirs and boiling mud are fascinating to me!)

I was in Iceland in July. I found prices in Rekjavik restaurants similar to those in NYC but hotel rooms were cheaper. That being said, I didn't skimp and could have eaten for a lot less than I did. Since this was my first trip to Iceland I can't compare it to the past.
Iceland is a wonderful country to visit and you should go!

I last went to Iceland just over year ago before the banks collapsed (d'oh) so can't give any specifics on prices I'm afraid, but I did read an article in the Guardian over the weekend saying that due to the lower prices and the weakening of the Icelandic Kronur, many more Icelanders are holidaying at home.
This has resulted in many organised trips and breaks having a much higher percentage of Icelanders taking part than in previous years and adding an extra element to the trips and giving participants a greater insight into the lives of the locals.

and it now means I have another thing to add to my list of "reasons why I must go back to Iceland".
