Is It Really Raining All of the Time Lately in Switzerland?
We have a two-week trip to Switzerland, leaving July 17. I have been following the weather in Luzern, and it semms like it has been raining every day lately, and the ten-day forecast is for rain almost every day.
Is that typical for July? Is it constant rain or showers mixed with good weather? I understood that last July it was quite warm, but that doesn't seem to be the case this year. I guess I need to bring clothes for every type of weather and temperatures.

Yes, it is raining, the same as in all of the rest of northern Europe. Typical? Absolutely. Just because Europe had a period of 10 or 20 mostly dry and warm years doesn't mean that things cannot go back to normal. In the "old days" August and September were the dry warm summer months.
It snowed in the Alps today, just for reference.

All the time? No.
We had a beautiful, warm and sunny Saturday without one drop of rain. Sunday was incredible until the evening and then it poured. Since then, we've had periods of showers with breaks of sunshine.
Driving down to Schwyz today, even my kids remarked on how beautiful the scenery was. On one side of the valley they saw rain clouds and on the other, sunshine and clear majestic mountains standing high over the valley and lake. Breathtaking.
It has been raining a lot lately and we'd all be happy if it stop long enough to enjoy a few days of continuous sunshine. Thankfully, most farmers have got their hay in this past weekend and everything is shamelessly green.
Can't tell you how the weather will be end of July. You'll just have to wait like the rest of us and keep checking the weather sites.
By the way, July was beautiful last year but August was wet and cold. Just like the year before. Doesn't mean though it will be the same this year.

We are having the weirdest weather. Saturday I did a car boot sale in Villeneuve on Lac Leman and forgot to put sunblock on my sandaled feet and now they are striped. It was brutally hot. As it was in Valais on Sunday. But here in Lausanne for the past three days it has been really chilly, damp and pouring, pouring, pouring! When I got off the bus tonight after work I thought to myself I would be happy wearing mittens. In July.
