Is it possible to do justice to two wonderful lovers?

I’m a happy but frustrated man these days, with a bittersweet problem that is driving me to distraction. Guilt and remorse constantly torment me. I feel some terrible event will result from my disloyal and unfaithful behavior of late.

It all began when some young, prune-faced doctor walked into my room and said: “We have done all we can do. You are being released. Just try to take it easy and live a normal life. No drinking, fatty foods or rich deserts. Then came the part I loved the most: And no heavy lifting or running!

All that time I spent chatting up those vain, airhead personnel clerks finally paid off.

I’ve been traveling like crazy, racking up FF miles, charming my way to free upgrades, staying in 5 star hotels, drinking fruity little drinks around pools, doing the hustle at high energy nightclubs packed with drop-dead beautiful babes (We go now - make big boom boom for long time!) and eating in great restaurants that serve lots of good grits at decent prices and have cheerful, attentive waiters who come running when I snap my fingers.

Did I tell you about the counterfeit handbags, DVDs, and computer programs?

Life is good - I’m even getting paid to do all that. So what is the hitch? Well, dog gone it, its in Asia and not Europe!

Hey, riding elephants, trekking through the jungle, milking cobras, buying fake Rolex’s, and having ten “one night in Bangkok” experiences is great, but I always find myself dreaming of my first love.

No, not the tall, thin, but full-bosomed girl whose father owned the best bakery in Paris, but France, Italy, England, Germany, Spain, Holland……. .

I’m sitting here in Hanoi, watching a noisy, chaotic street scene and thinking of all the good times I had in “Old Europe”. Its starting to rain and my heart sinks lower and lower.

I guess all I can do is go back to the Hilton and get my nails done and have another two hour oil massage.

Seriously, folks. I’d like to hear from all you “switch-hitters who travel to both Asia and Europe. Do you find yourself thinking of one while enjoying time somewhere else?

Warm Regards from Degas

>Do you find yourself thinking of one while enjoying time somewhere else?<

Oh, you are so fickle.

Hi ira

Off the wall question: What is the name of that great little town where you live? A friend is looking for some place close to Atlanta No, he's not a Yankee!

Cheers, old fellow. Certainly you recall that sage bit of advice: "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with."

I hear you, brother, I hear you. But I have many lovers in addition to Europe and Asia. I'm also having a passionate affair with Mexico that's been going on for several decades. And there are times when I pine for Manhattan or Maui or the red rock of Sedona. What's a poor girl to do?

But I love the one I'm with and don't think about the others until it's time to plan the next adventure.

PS Ain't SE Asia great? Did you get to Angkor Wat?

degas, So good to hear from you! It's difficult to feel sorry for you with all those great adventures. I'll think of you when I'm in Italy in a couple of weeks and will leave some of the wine and great food for your next foray there!

I don't know you degas, but I know what you mean. I had 12 years in Asia, couldn't get enough of it. Since I went back to Europe haven't been back to Asia once. Now in the US and spend all my time and money plotting my next trips to Italy, France, Spain....Morocco or Croatia next year???
But yes, sitting in a cafe in Hanoi....

I haven't been everywhere, but based on the places I've been, Europe is where I most want to be.

DH's 50th birthday just went by, and we could not do much celebrating because it was the same weekend as Darling Daughter's bridal shower. For my 50th we went to Paris. What could I do for his?

Well, we are going to Arizona. I know it will be great, but... how I wish we were going to Europe. I have to wait until March for Italy.

I have always wanted to see the Grand Canyon and Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon and more, and I am looking forward to the trip, but my real love, Europe, is just about all I can think of.

When I'm supposed to be planning AZ, I find myself surfing Italy. I want to do justice to AZ, but like degas, I feel the pull of Europe.

But this is for DH and not for me, and he has always wanted to go back to Arizona, where he served in the Air Force, and show it to me, and I am taking him to a Nascar race, which he loves and I abhor.

(Sigh) It's well-nigh impossible to do justice to them all, but I feel your pain. Not only has Asia been vying for my attention (and have a lemon juice for me in Hanoi, please) but South America established a firm hold...and this is after 20 years of Europe.

Next year's trip could be Chile, India, or the Baltics; on the other hand, Africa has been calling...

Just correcting your grammar:

The word 'for' is unknown by Thai/Viet/Cambodian bargirls. Hence that pick-up sentence should read:

"We go now - make big boom-boom long
time."

On the other hand the word 'four' is quite familiar to them, as in:

"You gib (bargirl's name) four tousand."

I must say I was very flattered by the Boom Boom offer. Some might say it was because of the fifty dollar bill taped to my forehead, but I'd like to think it was brought on by my looks and charm. I declined, of course, and broke the sweet young things heart - driving her immediately into the arms of another man!

Actually, Mrs Degas went with me to Bangkok. Not that I saw that much of her as she was too busy getting facials, foot massages, and buying up a storm in the markets.

What a joy the Thai people are - so nice and polite with such pretty smiles!
