Impossible to say-- but we saw a super show at Museo del Baile Flamenco in Seville. It was very intimate and a beautiful little courtyard setting and there was absolutely no hype or shobiz filler.

It makes no difference as long as you are seeing the best.

In 2009 we chose to see a Flamenco show in Madrid rather than Barcelona - based on Spain travel experts' advice.

The show at Corral de la Moreria, Madrid sold tickets for dinner as well as the Flamenco show or just the show. We chose to eat elsewhere and booked tickets for the 10 pm show. The time of year was late June, and it was sold out.

I have nothing to compare it to, but noticed that the dancers and musicians kept the audience's attention for the entire show.

The absolute finest flamenco artists perform in all these cities all the time.

Granada:
If you come to Granada before August 31, you could be up for a great flamenco experience in the open air Generalife theater in Alhambra. The grand scale performance "Duende" every night at 10pm until August 31. Created by brilliant flamenco dancers from Granada Fuensanta la Moneta (voted best female flamenco dancer 2009 by Spansih critics) and Manuel Liñan (recent winner of the prestigious Premio Max prize as best male dancer 2012). http://andalsurexcursiones.com/en/ne...-the-alhambra/

The performance is a tribute to the greatest Spanish poet of the 20th century and grand scale flamenco aficionado, Federico García Lorca from Granada, killed here shortly after the start of the Civil War in 1936, the famous composer Manuel de Falla (1876-1946), and cantaor (flamenco singer) legend Enrique Morente (1942-2010), also from Granada.

Online tickets: http://www.ticketmaster.es/nav/en/te...nde/index.html

Barcelona:

On August 28 and 29 very powerful Alba Carmona holds six less than an hour long concerts in Palau de la Música Catalana. She has got it all and has a vide repertoire. One of my absolute favourites. This small concert together with Marta Robles will also include Sephardic (the language of the Spanish Jews, expelled from 1492) songs etc. Concerts at 1830, 1930 and 2030 both Wednesday and Thursday, entrance only 7€. Highly recommended!

This year is a very special flamenco year in Barcelona with lots of celebratory events because of the 100th anniversary of the greatest flamenco dancer of all times, Carmen Amaya (1913-1963). Also 50 years since she died.

El Tablao de Carmen was established in 1988 in tribute to Carmen Amaya on the premises where she danced at 16 in front of King Alfonso XIII during the opening of the 1929 Barcelona World Expo. All 2013 is a celebration of Carmen up here:

http://www.tablaodecarmen.com/en/

And in Tablao Cordobés on Las Ramblas, Carmen Amaya's grand niece Karime Amaya dances through all of August! Her career is taking off right now. Here she's in a recent documentary about flamenco culture in Barcelona. She dances from 1.07 and towards the end of trailer: http://vimeo.com/51519531

Fabulous El Junco also dances all August in Tablao Cordobés: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sENoCuTQYPs

And Madrid and Sevilla are generally the two best cities to see flamenco in Spain.

Casa Patas in Madrid has consistently been the best tablao in the country the past few years. Great atmosphere and only top artists: http://www.casapatas.com/Index.asp?idioma=in

In Sevilla, I recommend intimate Casa de la Memória. No drinks, no food, just flamenco. Only top of the shelf local artists perform here, many of them have performed as soloists in the most important flamenco festivals and won the most prestigious prizes.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...Andalucia.html

Pastora Galván vas voted best female flamenco 2010 dancer by Spanish critics, and she has danced at Casa de Memória regularly for at least the past three years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2SBUcrJgeQ

An event out of the ordinary when Rosario la Tremendita sings in open air Patio de Banderas in Alcázar in Sevilla at 10.30 pm on August 31. She's one of the greatest flamenco singers on the current scene. Here a spectacular clip together with perhaps the greatest flamenco dancer in the world today, Rocío Molina (1.35-2.25mins).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2COB0w9500

They work together all the time, and Molina has nothing on her scedule for this night, so you might be so extremely lucky to see the two together.

I concur with Casa Patas in Madrid. Good food, good ambiance, good artists. Make a reservation.

Hi,

We were in Casa de la Guitarra in the Santa Cruz, Seville.
This is a great venue and marvelous Flamenco music and dancing.

He-he, I can live with that. And the tocaor here, Raúl "El Perla" is the best. A young guy from Sevilla, very much inspired by the old master, Diego del Gastor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09LZkX6h0dg

I went to see flamenco at Seville's Casa de la Memoria and while it didn't have the flamenco bar feel, the venue was intimate and the female dancer was one of the best in Spain. Highly recommended.
