Is driving through Munich difficult?
In checking Google Maps for directions from Regensburg to Garmisch Partenkirchen, my husband and I noticed that Google took us right through Munich.
Is Munich not too crowded, crazy to drive through? I'd love to stop at Nymphenburg Palace.

That area of Munich and Munich in general features wide modern streets (thanks to WW2 decimation perhaps) so outside of the very center where there are pedestrianized streets in and around the Marienplatz you should have no problem - Schloss Nymphenburg is way out of the busier center - absolutely no problem driving and parking there.

I've never had problems driving in Munich, and the hotel we usually stayed at was across the street from the Marienplatz.
If you know your way, the driving is not difficult. The two most difficult cities to drive into / out of are London and Paris for me. Amsterdam was a piece of cake.
One caveat, I'm not crazy enough to drive in Rome.

You can modify a Google map itinerary by placing the cursor on one point, clicking and sliding it to a point off the itinerary. On your itinerary, click on a spot slightly above or below the center of Munich, but still within Munich proper, and slide it to Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, which will give you the directions to the Nymphenburg palace. You can also double-check the itinerary by using www.viamichelin.com .

Finding parking is a problem everywhere, certainly in Nymphenburg. You need to be there at off peak hours, generally in residantial areas in the morning from 9am and in business areas before 7am. Most of the day there's virtually no parking for free, except on weekends. Park your car at a P&R and take a train, that's the best option if you're a tourist. In residential areas, you'll usually find cars parked 1/2 on the sidewalks on both sides of the road, which makes it only one usable lane. If you feel uncomfortable backing out with only very little space to you right and your left, don't go there.
You need to know, how wide you car is. If you only drive on the ring road, there's no problem.

Thanks, we did not drive in Rome or London either, and I will NEVER drive around Genoa Italy, again! We got caught in such traffic and construction last year, it was an absolute nightmare. The GPS in the car got us messed up in the construction areas, so we got our Garmin out of the glove compartment to see if she took us anywhere different. So at one point I had 2 GPS's telling me different things to do at the same time my husband argued with them both
The website for Nymphenburg Palace says
*At the palace there are around 450 free parking places for cars and 25 parking places for coaches.
They open at 9AM, we can have our breakfast at the Hotel in Regensburg at 7AM, so could leave by 8AM, and hopefully be there before the other 449 cars. Google says about 1 1/2 hours Regensburg to Nymphenburg Palace.
Hopefully everyone will be at Oktoberfest!

It's not the difficult, if you're patient.
City driving is never that pleasent, imo.
Look at the map again. Do you see that ring road that arcs around Munich? Drag you're map line over that and get a different route.
Also, you may want to read the rules about driving in Germany or any new country before you begin. I know I write this all the time but it really does cut down on the stress of people honking at you while you have no idea what you've done.
