Is anyone familiar with the "Gold Coast" in Ireland?

This is not the resort; but rather an area. I thought it might be south of Belfast, but I am not finding info. on it and was hoping someone might have been there or knew of it. I had a recommendation to go there, but nothing else to go on.

FYI... I am a TA and am asking for a client, so if you prefer not to help, I am not offended. Thanks for any assistance!

It's just Belfast suburbs. Pleasant enough coastal area, based around Bangor. Nice golf clubs, prettyish, if very suburban, coastal villages, lots of people who've done VERY well out of the Troubles. Nothing (well, not THAT much) remotely illegal: just that the British government poured fortunes into Northern Ireland, and quite a few people found ways of making a fair bit out of the security companies, equal-opportunity facilitation alliances, news agencies and the other business opportunities this influx offered. And no doubt a few chaps who've made a bob or two playing games with European subsidies.

Might be a good place to buy property (though since it's supposed to have the highest number of BMWs per head in the UK, the upside potential might be fully discounted in the price, as they say). Nice (if dull) place to live. OK for a day out if you live in Belfast. From memory, the new money is heavily Pape rather than Prod (which was supposed to be why the cars were (Catholic) BMWs rather than (Prod) Jags, but that might be an urban myth). But money making is above sectarianism in Bangor.

Hardly worth crossing the county for, nerver mind an ocean.

CotswoldScouser; Thanks for the detailed information! This couple is spending the remainder of the trip in SW Ireland, so heading up here doesn't seem to make alot of sense. Certainly not after your description. Thanks again!

Yes, but is someone getting confused?

There's some really terrific coast in Northern Ireland, above all north of Belfast. It'd be sad to miss what the North has to offer just because someone's getting their terms mixed up.

Are you sure they are not mistaking the "Gold Coast" with the "Copper Coast"? Since you say they are going to the SW of Ireland that would make more sense. It is the area between Tramore and Dungarvan and is called the Copper Coast because copper was mined there in the past. There are ruins of mines along the way. http://www.copper-coast.com/copper/web

I frequently find that people mangle names in Ireland. One of my favorites is calling the Giant's Causeway the Devil's Causeway.
