Is a week in Santorini too long?

Hi all,
We're looking at honeymooning in Santorini this summer and aside from squeezing in the important sites with a layover in Athens, are considering spending seven nights in Santorini. I see numerous posts with intineraries that have 2-3 nights in Santorini and then move on to other islands. We have been dreaming about visiting Santorini for years. Relaxation, drinking lots of wine, enjoying the view, and basically taking it all in would be the primary objective of our honeymoon. We want to avoid the stress of travel and moving around as much as possible on our trip. Settling in Santorini, our #1 choice in the world, seems like the right place to do it. My question to everyone would be, does a little bit of Santorini go a long way, especially in early July? Or does it get better the longer you're there? Thanks

"Relaxation, drinking lots of wine, enjoying the view, and basically taking it all in would be the primary objective of our honeymoon".

Based on that, I would say you'd be fine with 7 days in Santorini. We were there for 5 days and I wouldn't have minded another day or so, but then again my objectives in travel are similar to yours above. Yes, it's a small island but there are plenty of activities and things to see, and with that much time you could leisurely explore the entire island and what it has to offer at your own pace.

p.s. Take Captain Ted's cataraman cruise if you can. It was my most memorable Santorini experience, I still can't believe I got to sail around Santorini like that. And eat at sunset in Oia BELOW the cliffs, right next to the water. Wonderful.

Happy Honeymoon!

For goodness sake,, its your honeymoon, which is a welcome time to relax after the stress of planning and going through the whole marriage ritual..LOL
sitting around , beaching it, drinking wine, this is exactly what you need, and 7 days in Santorini will be perfect.

That sounds wonderful to me. I would recommend doing the Athens leg at the end of the trip. You'll be much more willing to explore then.

Hi

Congratulations .
No a week is not too long. Definitely get accommodation with caldera views. You will never forget your honeymoon! Also I agree with Laura. Leave Athens last. Try and tee up a domestic flight to Santorini with your international flight. Check Olympic or Aegean schedules. Good luck for the future.

We will be on a Greek honeymoon as well and staying in Santorini for 6 nights. I had doubts about spending this much time as well on one island (we have 3 nights apiece on two other islands, 2 nights in Athens at the end). My usual pace for traveling is a lot less leisurely, but for the sake of our honeymoon we're going to soak in all that Santorini sun and enjoy ourselves!

On our honeymoon in 2006, we spent a week at a beach resort in Australia at the very beginning of our trip (after flying from the U.S.).

After that first week, we picked up the pace a bit and traveled around Australia.

However, that first relaxing week was GREAT after the wedding and the flight. I wouldn't have done it any other way. We were soooo lazy, with is NOT our usual travel style. It was perfect!!
