Irish Pounds
In my trip preparations, I dug out our leftover Euros. Among them I uncovered a couple of 10 punt notes from our first ever trip to Ireland. I guess we saved them as souvenirs.
Since our exchange rate is so lousy these days, I thought I might as well see if we can trade them in for Euros once we get to Ireland. Does any one know if the banks or exchanges are doing this kind of transaction?

You have to go to the Central bank of Ireland - near Trinity

The Bank is currently accepting all Irish banknotes at its counters and will give value up to £1,000 (€1,269) per transaction. Where the amount to be exchanged is greater than £1,000, the value will be lodged to the specified bank account. If the bank account is held outside of Ireland, IBAN details are needed.
The opening hours for the exchange facility are:
Mon - Fri: 10.00am - 4.00pm
Alternatively you can send Irish banknotes to the Central Bank by registered post, along with bank account details, and the value will be lodged to the specified bank account. If the account is held outside of Ireland, IBAN details are needed. The address is as follows:

There are Bureaus de Change in main Post Offices in Ireland's larger Cities. I don't know if they will accept old Irish Punths (Punth = what's printed on the old banknote) for exchange, so Lawchick's solution may be your only recourse.
Most EU Countries that adopted the Euro had cut-off dates for exchange and those dates have long past.
