Ireland trip advice, please.

Jump to last reply

We are planing a 17 day trip to Ireland for the end of August and the first 2 weeks of September. We will be visiting friends along the way. We fly in and out of Dublin. Below is a very rough itinerary and would love any feedback. Besides visiting with our friends, we want to spend our time between nature (we will have several 1/2 day hikes planned, weather permitting, into our trip) and castles, ruins, etc... We live in nyc, so we're not so much interested in city exploring or soaring through our trip. We prefer to savor our experience as well as meet nice folks along the way. My partner is also a professional photographer and will easily get lost in the scenery. We will be driving the entire trip.

Day 1 : arrive in Dublin, get car and head south to Wicklow. See Powerscpurt Waterfall, Sally Gap, Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough. Either stay in Wickow or Wexford for the night or head to Carrick-on-Sur to stay with friend.

Day 2 : if not in Carrick already, head there to see friend. From here spend a day between Kilkenny and Cashel.

Day 3: head towards Cork for the night

Day 4 : Baltimore and Mitzen Head Peninsula

Day 5 & 6 : Sheep's Head & Beara Peninsula's

Day 7, 8 & 9 : Ring of Kerry, Killarney National Park & Dingle Peninsula

Day 10 : Cliffs of Mohr

Day 11 : Aran Islands

Day 12 : Connemara & Kylemore Abbey

Day 13 - 16 : Visit/stay with friends on Achilles Island traveling trough Mayo & Sligo counties

Day 16 : travel to Dublin

Day 17 : return flight home.

I'm already wishing we had another week, at least. Does this seem like too much to squeeze in? Plenty of time? I have yet to research housing options, so any advice along the way would be helpful. Any special hiking trails would be appreciated too.

Thanks is advance!
