I am looking for recommendations for cities to see in Ireland, will be there for 10 days. Would like to start in Dublin, include Cork and the Ring of Kerry. Will not be driving on this trip so will take train or join excursions.

The two obvious other choices would be Galway and Belfast.

My two favorite towns on our month long trip two years ago were Kenmare and Dingle. It really depends on your interests. We enjoy hiking and fine dining, and both towns provided ample opportunities. As you won't be driving, Kenmare might be the better of those two for you. Many excursions leave from nearby Kilarney,but I don't know what transport options exist between the two towns. BTW, we found the Ring of Kerry to be one long line of tour buses. We drove half way and bailed.

Galway for sure -- about a 3 hour train ride straight across the country from Dublin.

From Dublin, though, consider a short train ride up to Skerries, a nice smallish town. (It is dear to my heart because we waited out 9-11 flight blackout there. Lovely people.)

Another vote for Kinsale - but I don't know about public trans to get there.

With a friend (on same 9-11 trip) we took trains, bus, and taxis around and went to Dingle, Blasket Islands (off Dingle).

Prefer Killarney to ROK but would favor Dublin, Galway, Kinsale, Dingle over them.

You are going to Ireland and want to take public transport and local trips. No problem. BUT. you need your basses to be in locations where you can take tours. Forget Kenmare, Kinsale, Dingle as these are not going to tick the tour bus boxes although a couple have lots visiting them.

Dublin ~ Cork or Galway by express bus or train,

Galway has lots of tours for the Connemara Kylemore Abbey or Cong, Inis Mor, The Cliffs and Burren.

Cork, you can get Bus to Kinsale, Blarney,train to Cobh.

Both cities have bus links to Killarney where you can get tours of the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, The National park and Muckross.

If you want to go north then I always suggest getting the Bus direct from Dublin airport on arrival and start in Belfast, day one for the City (Black cab tour, Titanic etc) then day 2 for the Causeway coast or game of thrones tours then Dublin Day 3. Remember you need £sterling up north.

Of course there are other locations that have a few tours and places you can get to by public transport which are attractions in themselves like Waterford or Adare and others.

Dublin will give you tours to almost anywhere if you want to spend up to 18 hours of the day on a coach but Wicklow,Glendalough tours and the Newgrange tours make most sense.

I am encouraging everyone to go to Belfast now. Take a coastal road tour and see how friendly and beautiful NI is and how much there is to see and do.

Galway is easy for transportation. The go bus takes you to the center of town. Great day tours from there.

Took a wonderful day trip from Galway out to Aran Islands--bus from Galway and then boat.
