Ireland- Itinerary Planning Late September- 10 days

Jump to last reply

My friend & I are flying into Dublin late September, arrive 5am, collect rental car, - hotels booked for 9 nights, returning car to Dublin airport 11am on day 10. First trip to Ireland for us, would appreciate corrections & suggestions for our itinerary. Our first hotel is for one night, the other 4 hotels are booked for 2 nights each.

Day 1: (hotel in Kilkenny night 1) -leave Dublin 6am, drive down coast to Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford (visit W.Crystal), back up to Kilkenney(Castle) - is this too much our first day after little sleep? (5.5 hr flight from Toronto) - should we take a more direct route to Waterford? I know we are backtracking to Kilkenny after Waterford...

Day 2: (hotel in Killarney night 2&3) - Bus Tour Ring of Kerry (have seen posts that it is nice to just sit back and relax - or would it be best to drive it ourselves?

Day 3: ? Drive to Portmagee and do Murphy Sea Cruise boat trip to Skellig Michel (will there be much wildlife to see in late Sept?) OR ?Gap of Dunloe & Lakes of Killarney Day Trip (boat/hike/bike/jaunting cart) OR?... (Killarney for night)

Day 4: Leave Killarney, drive through Adare, Limerick, Bunratty to Newmarket-on-Fergus (hotel for 2 nights) - go to Bunratty Castle Traditional Irish Night

Day 5: Hike along coast up to Cliffs of Moher, return Newmarket-on-Fergus for night

Day 6: Take a boat tour from Doolin to Aran Islands (visit Inisheer), drive through The Burren to hotel in Oranmore, Galway (2 nights)

Day 7: Visit Galway City, return to Oranmore for night

Day 8: Drive to Dublin- ?do 24 hr hop on/hop off bus tour (2 nights Croke Park)

Day 9: 11 am Pat Liddy's Walking Tour, Eve- find pub with Irish music?Oliver St John Gogarty

Day 10: Return rental car to Dublin airport 11am and fly home.

We welcome all comments, suggestions, corrections, mustsees, what to miss, what makes sense.... Thanks in advance!
