ireland itinerary
me and my wife have planned a trip to Ireland for 8 days in september. this is my plan so far. land in shannon in early morning and drive to cliffs of moher. drive to Dingle for two nights, kenmare for two nights, kinsale for one night, and dublin for the last two nights. i have been twice before but my wife has never been. i like to move around alot but i think it best to give her more time to relax in one place. is kinsale worth it or should we spend more time in Dingle or Kenmare. also i was thinking about spending one day in kilkenney. i have never been there befor and think it sounds kind of cool. what do you all think.

My wife and I just returned from a 2 week trip to Ireland. We also landed at Shannon, drove to Galway (3 days) and then to the Cliffs (staying in Doolin for the night). A suggestion to stay in Doolin and at the Roadford House for the night and reserve dinner there. You will love the town of Dingle and the Slea Head drive--also suggest Greenmount House--a wonderful B & B. We spent two days in Kenmare exploring the ROK over two days. I must admit that we enjoyed Slea Head more than ROK and preferred only part of the ROK from Kenmare. Our second day route included Muckross House, Torc Waterfalls, Ross Castle to the Gap of Dunloe. If you leave early enough from Dingle you can do this route in reverse and arrive at Kenmare at a decent hour. We spent a night in Kilkenny after exploring Rock of Cashel (definitely worth the visit). The drive from Kenmare to Cashel is a bit long (almost 3 hours) and then another hour to Kilkenny. The Kilkenny Castle is a good sight however, you do a self guided tour there rather than a docent leading you. The town is fun and has lots of pubs and restaurants. We didn't go to Kinsale but did stop on our way to Glendalough (loved it) and would have stopped to see Powerscourt but the rain that day prevented us from seeing it. We couldn't complain because we only had 1 day of rain in our 14 days. Our 2 days in Dublin was enough and I suggest you purchase the Heritage Card if you plan on doing lots of sight seeing. Good luck.

My sister and I spent about 6 days in May covering the southern/southwestern part of Ireland. Most of our time was spent in and around the Ring of Beara, which I've been told is the most scenic of the three rings. It is indeed beautiful. Kenmare is delightful little town. If you stay there, check out the PF McCarthy's pub--they have live Irish music certain nights and it's well worth the stop. We didn't make it over to Dingle, unfortunately. I guess we'll have to plan a return visit! Hope you guys enjoy your trip!

Drop Kinsale. Ireland isn't going anywhere and you can plan another trip to give the SW its due.
I have been to the Dingle Peninsula, Beara Peninsula and ROK, and Beara Peninsula remains my favorite. ROK is the most diverse and I enjoyed it very much. The Dingle Peninsula has some beautiful views, but it left me a bit cold.
Fron Kenmare head out North to Killarney, on to Cashel, on to Dublin.
