Ireland in July - do I need to book B&Bs in advance?

My husband and I will be traveling to Ireland in July (Kinsale, County Kerry, Doolin area). Do we need to book our accommodations in advance since we are going in high season or will we be able to easily find availability when we arrive? I don't want to spend a lot of valuable vacation time hassling with trying to find a place to stay but I like the idea of some flexibility as well.

Thank you!

My vote would be to book ahead, especially in those popular areas.

I am already booked ahead for April. We know where we will be and I like to do some research on B&Bs before we go, find places that I think we will like, then reserve our rooms. But that's just me.

Make reservations given the business of the season. Don't miss the Skelligs (out of Kilkenny). Takes a day, but it's well worth it. I'd skip Doolin if it meant I could take the trip to the Skelligs.

Book now if you don;t want to have to stay in the places no one else does.

If you don't want to waste time each day looking for accommodations, then you should book early as all of those places are popular tourist destinations. We have already booked our accommodations for our trip in May to County Kerry and County Clare. (And May is a lot less busy than July.) I like being able to choose a place that looks nice and offers a good rate. I don't want to have to pay a premium or get a less-than-satisfactory place to stay because I'm desperate.

Also, I think indianapearl is a little confused about where to get boats to Skellig Michael. Kilkenny is landlocked and about 300 km away. You'd want to look at boats leaving from Portmagee, Ballinskelligs, Waterville, etc.

FWIW: We stayed in a B & B in Kilkenny and arranged for Patrick, our boat captain, with a phone call from there. We leapt out of bed the next morning and drove to Port Magee. I recall it was about a 90-minute drive. We bought some sandwiches and bottled water on the way.

One caveat: the restrooms on Skellig Michael weren't working the day we visited. It was about six hours from Port Magee tomthenisland and back. Plan accordingly!
