Ireland Castles

My boyfriend and I are traveling to Ireland in Late May 2004. We have a reservation at Ashford Castle but want to make sure we stay at the best in Ireland. Any feedback on Ashford and others would be most welcome.

We loved Dromoland. www.dromoland.ie but there is another thread here about castles in Ireland that you'll want to read. A lot of good information in it.

Thanks....I read the other responses and they were very helpful. What made you decide on Dromoland when you were researching?

Angie: I've been to both Ashford and Dromoland and liked Ashford (by far) the best. I particularly liked the view, the grounds and, best of all, the horseback riding stables on the property. At Dromoland, you had to go to another town to ride.

Have a great time!

I don't know anything about Ashford but the reason we chose Dromoland was for 2 reasons. #1 We wanted to stay in a real castle that had been converted to a hotel not a hotel that had been built like a castle. #2 It is close to Shannon airport and we made it our last Ireland stay before heading back to the airport and home.

Gualalalisa: Thanks for the information. We had looked at Dromoland as well. Did you happen to do the Falconry at Ashford?

I've stayed at Ashford and not Dromoland. Ashford is nice, especially if you are into the high end kind of stuff, but I still prefer B&Bs. I played the golf course in May and it wasn't much to write home about. Otherwise, it's very nice and the veiws of Lough Corrib are fantastic. The view from the ninth hole is beautiful by the way.

I've been to the Falconry and it was nice. I'm not huge on birds, but it was interesting.
