Ipswich Suffolk -Orwell Bluegrass festival
Traveling from US May 2014, need hotel near Heathrow plan to ride red bus first day, then train from Liverpool Street Station to Ipswich for Orwell Bluegrass Festival for a day then back to hotel Heathrow for next day or day after bus service to Bourton on the Water for five day walk stay. Anyone been to the festival? Travel online says hour train ride to Ipswich and hour back, reasonable? Cheers

From a Heathrow hotel to Bourton on the Water means getting a bus to the right terminal at the airport (tougher than it sounds), walking to the bus stop for Reading, changing to the train for Moreton, then getting the bus.
None of these stages are timetabled to coincide with the next. As janisj says, it's far easier to get the tube (or bus, or walk) from a central London hotel to Paddington, get the train to Moreton or Kemble then get the bus.
Getting from a Heathrow hotel to Ipswich isn't much easier: again bus to a terminal, walk to tube station, tube to Kings Cross, another tube to Liverpool St, train to Ipswich.
A hotel near Liverpool St or Paddington means a short walk to one train and a single tube journey to the other. Faster, cheaper - and a real city all round you.

Wow, I was way off base in the planning, thank you everyone, I'll start looking at central London, may have to forget the bluegrass festival. We go to many of them in Michigan, thought it would be fun to do.
Checking flights the costs seem close to fly into Heathrow as Edinburgh, could fly into Edinburgh for 2 days, then take a train down to (?)(London) to get to Bourton on the Water.
Am I off base on this one?

Looking at maps and train schedules, revising everything. Will look for a hotel near Paddington station. Easy way to roll luggage out of Heathrow to train to Paddington, then hotel. Rest and maybe a hop on off London tour for a couple of hours in the afternoon. When ready train out of Paddington to Moreton, then bus to Bourton. Thanks to all...
