Internet in France
My husband and I will be taking two tours in France this summer for a total of 19 days. In the past, we have always used internet cafes in Europe but would like to avoid that this time. What are the best options? We could take a laptop and hope for WiFi hotspots. I've also considered getting an iPad for internet use. Is WiFi free and available throughout France? What about 3G networks? We'll be in Paris for several days and then go on to Normandy and later travel to the south. Any help will be appreciated.

Agree with avalon. Also, some hotels make a computer available for guests. Do ask. With so many folks taking their computers along and with phone email, we are finding fewer internet cafes so you are wise.

Almost any hotel will have wifi these days... the top end hotels will charge extra... oddly the less expensive the hotel the more likely the internet will be free.
The city of Paris provides free wifi all over Paris at libraries and parks.
McDonalds has free wifi all over France.
Here's a link to a site for locating wifi worldwide...

And Starbucks also... plus all these people not protecting their network.
I should add that if you leave major cities and go to country side, you can't be really sure you will find wifi. For example I often have to go to Corrèze and I can forget about being on the Internet there.
I would go for the Internet cafes option: cheaper and less hassle.
