Hi,
I am going to Interlaken next week and staying there for 3 days. I just have a few questions about what to do.
I plan to spend one day catching the train from Interlaken ? Grindewald ? Jungfraujoch. And on the way back, I plan to return via Wengen and Lauterbrunnen. I was just wondering, how do I know what walks to take when I get to these towns?
The next day, I plan to spend recovering from our hiking and taking a cruise along with Lake Thun or Lake Briez. Which one is better?
Finally, What should I do for the third day? Is it worth taking the train to Lucerne for one day?
Thanks!
Interlaken- what to do there?

Hi. On one of our trips to Switzerland we stayed in Interlaken and took a day trip to Jungfraujoch and another to Berne. The trip up to Jungfraujoch took the better part of the day. I have visited Lucerne three times and while the town is nice, I think a day trip to Berne is easier. It is only an hour by train from Interlaken. We loved Wegen and the Lauterbrunnen Valley so much, we went back two years later.
Every tourist office in the area has advise on local walks/hikes. Also, I know a lot of people do not like Rick Steves, but his book on Switzerland has numerous maps and descriptions of walks/hikes in this area. It was a great resource for us.
Please be advised that the weather in the Bernese Oberland area during early June can be cold and rainy. Our last trip (we were there mid June) had us walking from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg in the clouds and mist by ourselves...kind of weird. The day we went to Jungfraujoch, it was cloudy and misting in Interlaken and Grindelwald. It was clear, sunny and cold at the top of the mountain.
You will love this area of Switzerland. Have fun!
Good afternoon, will get back with an additioinal message later about the Berneroberland and whant are good hikes, etc. One place you should get is one small book the Swiss Bernese Oberland by Alspach, covers most of what you question, however will write you after dinneer with some additional places to see, go and hike around the BO as well as the internal transportation...
