Infant car seat
We are travelling with a just under 3 year old infant and I had a query regarding the same. While in Vienna we intend to use the public transport for travel all through and don't intend to use Taxis under normal circumstances and thus wouldn't be carrying a infant car seat around. However my query was for one off occasion when we are too tired to walk/use the public transport and would like to take a cab back to the hotel. It would be too naive to expect the cab drivers to be carrying around car seats. So in such circumstances what is the minimum time before intended travel needed to book a cab with car seats?
Though unsafe and what we would like to avoid - but what are rules regarding infant seats in taxis? In UK though car seats are compulsory but Black cabs are exempt from this rule for precisely the same reason as i mention above. Would this also be the case in Austria?

There are child seats to cover several periods of growth in a child around three I think. Asking a taxi driver to carry around three seats is impossible. If he had to carry more than one child that would multiply the seats required.
Hence the law makers sensibly choose not to include taxis in any "child seat law " within Europe.
I except you do not want to carry around a child seat all day so taking your own is not going to be an idea either is it?

Every place I am aware of has exempted taxis from any of the rules on car seats fro infants/small children. If you are taking a significant drive - from city to airport - you can reserve a car service that will have a cild seat. But for taxis around town people just hold the kids.

Look on EBAY! I found what I think is a good alternative. They are hard plastic (like the outside of carseats) board, stuffed and covered with a harness attached. Eddie Bauer used to make them, but quit because they obviously are not safe everyday alternatives to regular car seats. Anyway they attach to the seat with a seat belt and have the shoulder harness and waist belt attached. It's just like a caarseat minus the seat part and saftey sides by the head.
