Inexpensive Hotels in Edinburgh near Princess Street

I want to .do family research and have to be able to get to the Scotlands People Center on West Register St. Am willing to use public transportation or walk. Would like an inexpensive hotel. Thanks for any help. Rose

You might try The Greenside ...quite reasonable four years ago...I recall about 60 pounds. It's on Calton Hill overlooking town, pleasant area and easy walk down to the Princes Street area. We did it every day, Royal Mile close also.

Rose, I assume you're a woman and therefore eligable for membership in a wonderful hospitality organization I've belonged to for a few years now. It's called 5W, Women Welcome Women Worldwide, is based in England but has members, as the name implies, all over the world. We host one another in our homes although one can stay with other members even when it's not possible to reciprocate. I've met a number of members now, several of whom have become good friends. I see there are several members in Edinburgh. The only cost is the very reasonable annual membership fee. Have a look at the website. http://www.womenwelcomewomen.org.uk/

14 Hart Street is a wonderful B and B close by. It is under 100 pounds a night.

How inexpensive? There are a few travelodges in central Edinburgh and while very basic, the rooms are modern and clean and can be VERY cheap depending on dates and how far ahead you book. £19 single is not unheard of. But £30-£40 is more typical.

But if you don't mean quite that cheap - What is you actual budget?

56 Frederick street--both the address and the name of place. Stayed there in May. Cannot recommend it highly enough, as long as you can manage the 3 flights if stairs.
